‘Service of man is the worship of God,’ is the essence of the life and teachings of the great Himalayan saint H.H.Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati Maharaj of Rishikesh, the founder of the International Divine Life Society.

In the footsteps of this great Master, there are many organizations functioning in Madurai, the famous temple city of Goddess Meenakshi in Tamilnadu, for the past many decades --- Sivananda Vidyalaya, Sivananda Tapovanam, Sivananda Satsang Bhavan, Imaya Geetam (Anglo – Tamil monthly), the Divine Life Society branches etc.. Now the recent addition is Sivananda Sevashram at the outskirts of Madurai city in an enchanting and peaceful rural background, away from the madding crowd and noise of the city but adjacent to the newly formed four-line National highway, the Delhi-Kanyakumari Grand Southern Trunk Road, at Sivanandanagar, Thoppur at the Austinpatti road.

Established by the combined, dedicated and devoted efforts of five bachelor brothers, the eldest of whom is (Late) Sri Swami Vimalananda, these organizations are serving the poor village people for their social and spiritual upliftment. Swami Vimalananda was an ardent disciple of H.H.Sri Swami Sivanananda Maharaj from 1948 who was saved by the Master’s grace from his death-bed miraculously.
